Good Morning Students, Today we would like you to take the Specialized High School Aptitude Test. The Instructions on how to take the test follows. Please be sure to submit your grade to me or Mr. Regis via email or pupil path. If you take the exam and submit your grade to me or Mr. Regis before Sunday 12:00 am. I will credit 5 points towards your grade. Thank You.

Instructions to students: 

1. Today you will use your morning classes / sessions to 

 fill out the Stuyprep application and take the diagnostic test. All grade 7 students will be given a ticket to take the Specialized High School Admission Test (SHSAT) in October.

2. You will log out and go immediately to "stuyprep.org",

Click APPLY and fill in your and your parent information

3a. Next Click EXAM and take the test. Take extra time if

 needed to answer all questions.

3b. Students who started the test at home should use their test password to resume and complete the test at this time.

3c. Students who are receiving other tutoring services such as the DREAM and other private programs, must  also apply. The results for the past three years have shown that the students who gained specialized high school seats were the ones who attended both programs, or at least two programs.

4. Click SUBMIT when completed. Wait for "Thank you" and check your score. 

5. You MUST write down your score and  send it to your teacher IMMEDIATELY! (Extra credit will be given for completing this test?)

6. For any questions or other issues during the test, please call your teachers or Ms. Morant. (347-244-7428)

SPRING DRP FAMILY LETTER - all languages

Dear Families,

We are incredibly thankful for your partnership over the last several weeks; without your assistance we would not be successful with distance learning. Please know that we miss the daily face-to-face interactions with your children. It is through these conversations in the classroom that we typically learn so much about how we can help them develop as learners. 

We use your child’s work or performance on projects to see their progress and develop plans to improve their learning. Our school community continues to be dedicated to design remote learning tasks, projects, and quizzes that will provide us with information to support your child's learning now and when we return to the classroom--hopefully, sooner than later. 

The Degrees of Reading Power (DRP) is a reading assessment that your child has taken twice this year that tells us how to support them with reading comprehension. Through the completion of the DRP this May, we will have an opportunity to learn more about your child as a reader as well as be able to make school wide decisions for the start of next year such as books to purchase, training for teachers, and student scheduling.

Your role in the completion of the DRP is quite simple. The DRP will be administered on Wednesday, May 27^th. The week of May 18-22, your child's teacher will provide your child a username, password and the DRP website will be posted on all platforms on Wednesday, May 27^th. We ask that your child log in and take as much time as needed (usually 60-90 minutes) to read the passages and respond to the questions. You can help by:  

❏    watching from a distance that your child is focused

❏    ensuring there is minimal background noise

❏    checking in with the teacher after your child is done to see what you can do to help 

As your child makes their way through the reading passages, it is possible they will become frustrated. This is understandable since some of the passages may be above their reading level. Please encourage your child to complete as many questions as possible; however, if they do not feel they can continue they may stop and submit the DRP. Lastly, it is important for you to know the DRP will not impact promotion and/or report card grades.

Estamos increíblemente agradecidos por su asociación en las últimas semanas; sin su ayuda no tendríamos éxito con el aprendizaje a distancia. Tenga en cuenta que extrañamos las interacciones diarias cara a cara con sus hijos. Es a través de estas conversaciones en el aula que típicamente aprendemos mucho sobre cómo podemos ayudarlos a desarrollarse como aprendices.
